Kio Briggs

Kio Briggs Writer Producer

Born in Nigeria, raised between Port Harcourt, the UK and the States, Kio has a multicultural upbringing that greatly influences his perspective and work. He was raised in a West African home by a single parent: prominent English-born, Nigerian environmental and human rights activist, Ann-Kio Briggs.

An Author, Artist, Music Executive and Creative Producer, Kio Briggs is also the Founder of ‘Gifted, by Nature’, a Creative House specialising in Artist and Brand Management, Media Production and Publishing. Rooted in consciousness, creativity and compassion, GIFTED centralises narratives that are clued in on today’s culture - inspiring, educating and engaging conversations around personal development, sustainability and self expression.

Briggs published his first book 'Living Free' in 2017. An Amazon Bestseller, 'Living Free ' unravels Briggs’ choice to leave a 9-5 life to experience a sense of adventure - travelling, stepping outside of his comfort zone, spiritual growth and creative entrepreneurship. In 2020, Briggs followed up with an Ebook release of 'Meditations On Freedom'; an illustrated pocketbook with anecdotal stories for the soul.

His Creative House, ‘Gifted, by Nature’, is currently a resident business at Somerset House London, as part of the Black Business Incubator programme. As one of London’s high-growth creative businesses, GIFTED has also been selected as a part of the Impact Cohort of the London & Partners Business Growth Programme, supported by the Mayor of London.

As an advocate for Black ownership, Briggs prides himself on partnering with other Black-owned businesses, including: The Stack World, the MOBO Trust, RCRDSHOP, POCC, Renaissance Studios and many more. During the global lockdown in 2021, Briggs co-produced and hosted a live-streamed panel, with Autograph ABP: ‘HEAVY Circle: Uplifting Black Masculinity’. This project opened up space to celebrate Black and mixed race voices and their stories, in order to normalise conversations around male vulnerability, strength, creativity and mindfulness.

Briggs is an avid basketball player and painter. In 2019 he exhibited his work “That’s Cool”, an oil-painting that explores societal biases and projections onto young black men, highlighted in their chosen dress code. He has discussed the inspiration behind his work on BBC Radio London, as a featured New Voice (2019).

“It's a long journey, filled with highs and lows, if we find something we love doing and are able to create a way to do it for the rest of our lives, it's all worth it.”
